North Hall Complex
Journey to Success: First Year Residential Experience
This program is designed to assist first year students in making a successful transition from high school to college, specifically in the areas of leadership, personal development, character, and academic success. First year students will live in an environment that seeks to cultivate academic and social development through interaction with faculty and staff, programming related to transition issues, community service opportunities, and mentor relationships. The mentor relationship component is where your participation is vital to the success of this program. Each freshman female signed up to live in the new hall will understand that she will be assigned a mentor throughout the first year at IWU. This mentor will serve as a guide, resource, big sister, and friend to the freshman female student.
There is one position available for you to apply for within the program: Journey Mentor. All continuing students selected to participate in this new program will be part of the Journey Leadership Team, which is comprised of the Associate Dean for Mentoring and Residential Learning Initiatives, two Mentoring Coordinators and the Journey Mentors. The primary function of a Journey Mentor is to assist 1-2 first year students in making a successful transition from high school to college, specifically in the areas of leadership, personal development, character, and academic success. There are four primary functions of the Mentoring Coordinators which include: provide support and direction to the Journey Mentors, assist with planning and implementation of all programming, serve as a member of a designated (Eastside or Westside) hall leadership staff, and evaluate overall program through assessments, focus groups, and regular interaction with first-year students and Journey Mentors.
Should you apply and be accepted into this program you will be given priority housing in the new mentoring hall, and you will be allowed to pick your roommate and suitemates who are not required to apply or be accepted into the program.
